Ingredients for the BBQ Salmon
To make the BBQ salmon, you’ll need:
- 3 pieces of salmon
- 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons of smoked paprika
- 2 teaspoons of onion powder
- 1 teaspoon of cumin
- 1 teaspoon of kosher salt (add more if you have larger filets)
- 3 tablespoons of olive oil
Preparing the BBQ Salmon
- Preheat and Prep: Start by preheating your oven to 475°F (245°C). We cook the salmon on high heat for only 10 minutes.
- Season the Salmon: In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, smoked paprika, onion powder, cumin, and kosher salt. Rub this spice mix all over the salmon pieces, ensuring they are well-coated. Drizzle with olive oil and let the salmon marinate for about 10 minutes while the oven heats.
- Bake to Perfection: Place the salmon on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or foil for easy cleanup. Bake the salmon for 10 minutes, or until it is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork. The high heat will give the salmon a nice, crispy exterior while keeping the inside juicy and tender.
Ingredients for the Mango and Avocado Salsa
While the salmon is baking, you can prepare the refreshing mango and avocado salsa. Here’s what you’ll need:
- 2 mangoes, diced
- 1 avocado, diced
- 1/4 cup minced cilantro
- 1/2 jalapeño, minced (optional, to taste)
- 1 teaspoon honey
- Juice and zest of 1 lime
- Salt to taste
Making the Mango and Avocado Salsa
- Mix it Up: In a medium-sized bowl, combine the diced mangoes, avocado, minced cilantro, and jalapeño. If you like a bit of heat, the jalapeño adds a nice kick, but you can skip it if you prefer a milder salsa.
- Add the Zing: Drizzle the honey over the mixture and squeeze in the lime juice. Add the lime zest for an extra burst of citrusy flavor. Gently toss everything together until well combined. Season with salt to taste.
Bringing It All Together
To complete your BBQ Salmon Bowl, you’ll need 2 cups of cooked jasmine rice. The fragrant, fluffy rice serves as the perfect base to soak up all the delicious flavors.
- Assemble the Bowl: Divide the cooked jasmine rice between three bowls. Top each bowl with a piece of BBQ salmon.
- Top with Salsa: Generously spoon the mango and avocado salsa over the salmon. The vibrant colors and fresh flavors of the salsa add a beautiful contrast to the smoky salmon.
A Few Tips for the Best BBQ Salmon Bowl
- Fresh is Best: Use fresh, ripe mangoes and avocados for the salsa. The sweetness of the mango and the creaminess of the avocado truly make this dish shine.
- Customize Your Spice: Feel free to adjust the spice levels in both the salmon rub and the salsa. Add more or less jalapeño depending on your heat preference.
- Meal Prep Friendly: This BBQ salmon bowl is great for meal prepping. You can make a batch of the salmon and salsa ahead of time and simply assemble the bowls when you’re ready to eat.
