The BEST Black Bean Burgers

Hi! I’m Andy

Welcome to my kitchen.
I hope to inspire you to grow as a home cook!

Spring is in the air and today just felt like a burger day. I love a good burger. In an effort to keep with meatless Monday, though, I tackled a Black Bean Burger. I was super-impressed with how it turned out. A great substitute for your standard burger!

The best part of this recipe is that you can totally make it your own! The beans, eggs, and bread crumbs are musts, but feel free to add any veggies, spices or sauces to make the burger uniquely yours – never feel trapped by a recipe!

Instructions:

  • I am so happy you are making this recipe. I am super proud of it! Let's do this. First, drain the canned beans and give them a rinse using a mesh strainer. Pour beans into bowl and mash with a fork. You want some texture so don't go too crazy, but mash for a good 2-3 mins. #exercise.
  • Next up, add in everything else! Bread crumbs, sweet potato, egg, yogurt, lime zest, salt, pepper, paprika, chipotle powder, onion powder, cumin, cilantro, and anything else you have in your fridge that you think will taste good! Mix everything together.
  • Form 6 good sized burger patties. If you have a ring mould this becomes a bit easier, if not just form regular patties by hand. If you have the moulds, lay the proper size down on a piece of parchment paper and and spoon in the mixture. Remove ring. Place all of the burgers in the fridge for 15 mins or so to allow them to firm up.
  • Next up, get a pan heated over medium high heat. Add olive oil and a tbsp butter. Once butter is melted, lay burgers down and leave them for around 5 mins. You want to get a nice crust so it's important not to move them around. After 5 mins flip and place cheese on if you are using. Cook for another 5 minutes.
  • Boom! You are done. Build the burger! Show your creativity!! ENJOY!
