Welcome to my kitchen. I hope to inspire you to grow as a home cook!

Okay, folks—if you’re anything like me, always chasing that perfect combo of crispy, zesty, and satisfying, this dumpling salad recipe is going to blow your mind. It’s a fresh twist on a classic dumpling recipe and takes something you probably already have sitting in your freezer—frozen dumplings—and levels it all the way up.

We’re talking pan-fried golden dumplings tossed with crunchy cabbage, sweet carrots, fresh green onions, and cilantro, all tied together with a flavorful dressing that’s got just the right hit of zing from lime juice, soy sauce, fish sauce, garlic, and ginger. It’s one of those “is this a salad or a full meal?” type dishes—and I’m here to say it’s both.

Whether you’re looking for a quick lunch, an exciting side dish, or something to impress your friends at your next BBQ, this dumpling salad recipe has you covered.

The Perfect Weeknight Dish: Fast, Fresh, and Full of Flavor

One of the best parts about this dumpling salad? It’s ready in under 30 minutes, start to finish. We use store-bought frozen dumplings—anything from potstickers to wontons will do—and toss them in a hot pan for that golden crisp texture. Then a little steam action helps finish the job.

While that’s happening, you toss together the dressing ingredients in a large bowl. I’m talking soy sauce, fish sauce, olive oil, lime juice, ginger, and garlic. Throw in a Thai chili if you want a little kick—if not, leave it out. You do you.

From there, it’s all about the vegetables. Shredded cabbage, julienned carrots, chopped green onions, a handful of cilantro, and sesame seeds bring crunch, flavor, and some serious color to the table. Then, once those cooked dumplings are ready, toss ‘em in and give it all a good mix. Boom. Done. Serve it up while the dumplings are still warm for the ultimate textural contrast.

Why This Dumpling Salad Is Going Viral

This dish has serious meal prep potential. You can whip up a big batch, portion it out into containers, and have lunch locked and loaded for a few days. Just store the components separately in the fridge to keep everything fresh—especially if you’re all about that crunch.

And hey, if you’re wondering, “Can I make my own version of this dumpling salad?” Absolutely. This salad is super flexible. Add in some cucumber for an extra layer of freshness, toss in some edamame or shrimp for added protein, or even swap in some pan-fried tofu if you want to go plant-based. It’s one of those recipes that’s forgiving and fun to experiment with.

Big salad energy… but make it a dumpling salad. Game. Changer.

Let’s Talk Nutrition

This dish isn’t just about taste—it delivers on the nutritional front too. Thanks to all those veggies, you’re loading up on fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants. Dumplings—depending on the kind you use—offer a nice mix of carbohydrates, protein, and that oh-so-satisfying chew.

Throw in some sesame oil or even a drizzle of chili crisp for monounsaturated fat and polyunsaturated fat that actually bring health benefits and not just flavor. Depending on your dumplings, you might want to watch the sodium, but otherwise, it’s a balanced, feel-good meal.

These simple dumpling salad ingredients pack serious flavor punch.

What Dumplings Work Best?

You’ve got options when it comes to dumpling recipes. I’ve tried this salad with pork potstickers, veggie gyoza, and even little chicken wontons. Pretty much any dumplings recipe that pan-fries well will do the trick here. Just be sure to use a heavy skillet or wok over medium-high heat to get that golden-brown crust.

No need to bake or use the oven—though if you’re into the air fry game, that works too! Just cook them until crispy on the outside and warmed through. You’re looking for texture here—that’s what makes this salad pop.

When salad looks this good, you’re going back for seconds (and thirds).

Pro Tips to Nail This Dumpling Salad

Here’s how to really make this recipe sing:

  • Use a non-stick pan or well-seasoned cast iron to make sure your dumplings don’t stick.
  • Don’t overcrowd your pan—cook the dumplings in a single layer to ensure even browning.
  • After pan-frying, add a few tablespoons of water, slap on a lid, and let the steam finish cooking the dumplings. This step keeps the inside juicy and tender.
  • Want more crunch? Toss in some chopped peanuts right before serving. Or for extra brightness, add a splash of rice vinegar or rice wine vinegar to the dressing.
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge. They’ll hold up for a couple of days, but if you want to keep the texture, store the salad and dumplings separately.

This dumpling salad recipe is a straight-up flavor bomb. It’s got everything—crunch, tang, umami, and that comforting bite of golden pan-fried dumplings. It’s a little bit indulgent, a little bit healthy, and a whole lot delicious.

So the next time you’ve got a bag of frozen dumplings in your freezer and some veggies kicking around, give this a try. It might just become your new favorite quick-fix dinner or go-to lunch. And hey, if you’re serving it to guests? Don’t be surprised if it disappears in seconds.

I made this salad and took it to an event on the weekend. It was a huge hit. I will be making it again for a picnic next week, and all summer long. Before I dressed the salad, I gave it one last taste and decided to add a teaspoon of honey. It might have been because I used GF tamari instead of soy sauce. Really liked the result. Next time will try using soy sauce. Thanks! Love this recipe.

Andy Hay says:

happy to hear this was a hit, Brenda! Good call on the honey—that extra sweetness would have made a big difference. Thanks for sharing!
